Can you install pre-66 headlights on 1971 fenders or do I have to replace the fenders?

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for your question. In 1967 the headlight bucket of the fender was changed when Volkswagen changed the headlight assembly. There is no way to use a headlight assembly from a pre-1966 Beetle in a 1967 and later fender.

You can interchange the fenders due to the fact that all standard Beetle’s fender mounting holes are the same. The next problem you will have is the front bumper brackets… Just remember with changes like this, everything you want comes with something that you don’t!
