1200cc Carburetor Size?

Hello. I have a 1200cc in my bug. The old 28 Pict is leaky and the car won’t stay idling. I’d like to get a lil more HP out of her. Can I use a 30 Pict-2 as an upgrade? I see a 30 Pict-2 for sale on offer up that came off a 1600cc. Will I be able install it and without jetting it?

Best,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your question. Yes, the 28 pict and the 30 pict share the same mounting base size. Just adding a little bigger carburetor is not going to give you much of a gain in horsepower. As my father would say, “giving more hay to the old horse isn’t going to make it run faster”!

As for jetting, if you think about it, the 30 pict is jetted for a 1600cc motor with the 1200cc motor being 25% smaller. It would only make sense that one would need to do some jet work so that the engine would not be running too rich and wasting fuel.

Hope this all helps,
Andy
