Lowered, Wide 5 conversion on a ’69 Bug

Ask AndyLowered, Wide 5 conversion on a ’69 Bug
Andy Shouse asked 8 years ago

I have a 1969 Bug, it currently has drum brake and 4 lug pattern. What parts do I need to have to run dropped spindles and a 5 wide pattern? I was thinking of disc in the front and drums on the rear. Thanks.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your question. AC Industries has just come out with a disc brake conversion kit to do just what you are wanting to do. The new kit number is #498740 and this will convert your ’69 Bug 4 lug, ball joint front suspension to a lowered disc spindle and wide 5 lug pattern. This kit comes with everything that you need to make the conversion. You will NOT even need to change your stock master cylinder! This kit has free freight included! On the rear you can run rear a rear disc kit or with some adaptation, run the #113501615DIT rear drums for Bugs up to 1967. To continue to use the stock rear brake shoes, you will need to have a some machine work done on the drums and run a special 36mm axle nut with a spacer welded to it, #311501221SP

Thanks and I hope this helps! Andy
