Will 17″ rims fit?
Hi Andy, I’m running drum brakes all around, and contemplating 17″ rims. Would I need any spacers for the rear? Do the 17″ touch the spring plate like I have been told?
Hi Loren,
There are simply to many combinations to be able to answer this. The year and model of the car, the lug pattern of the wheel, will you use wheel adapters and so on are all variables to consider.
You will need to do measurements on your car to determine where this wheel will sit in the wheel well. I use simple items to do this. Take a length of string and tie a large nut on one end as a weight. Tape the other end of the string to the inside of the wheel well at the inner most spot before the tire/wheel will hit. Allow the nut to hang but not touch the ground. Measure from the drum face to the string, this number will be your inner offset measurement. Now mover the string to the outer wheel lip. Measure once again from the drum mounting face to the string. This number will be your outer wheel offset. Take these measurements and draw it out on a pad of paper. Always leave some extra room for tire/wheel and suspension movement.
Contact the wheel supplier and ask for the inner and outer offset measurements of your chosen wheel. Take these numbers and compare to your measurements. If done correctly, this will give you everything you need to know and it will be specific for your car!
Hope this helps!
Andy
